After Another Mass Shooting, How Do You Feel America?

WARNING: POTENTIALLY UPSETTING DISCUSSION

Violated. Yesterday I felt broken. Today, I realize that a big part of that is I feel violated. I have had so many emotions and thoughts churning inside me regarding the most recent mass shootings, but this one had to come out.

Torchlight Media: America Continues to Choose Guns over Children

Last Sunday, a gunman injured several people and killed three at a food festival.  The people killed were 6, 13, and 25 years old. The future of America murdered  by our present reality.

So, I thought I should lay out some of the statistics on gun violence in this country.  This is just the tip of the iceberg. The reality is that we do have a problem with gun violence in America, and it disproportionately affects our young people, women, and minorities. We need to do better. We need to grow up.

Reaching My Gun Violence Rubicon

We are fast approaching an important personal anniversary for me.  I find myself today bubbling over with jumbled emotions and thoughts, so I thought I’d share a few.

I am writing for her, because she can’t do it for herself.

Sobering Thoughts: Mass Shootings, Guns, and Bringing Prohibition into the Picture

We’ve had another mass shooting in America. Another school shooting.  I’ve written about this and guns previously. I’ve never gotten much of a reaction to what I wrote, so I guess it barked up the wrong tree. This time, I thought I’d just express some thoughts bouncing off the walls in my head about guns and Prohibition, with no definitive conclusions. Continue reading

An American Intervention: Gun-Shaped Elephants and Talking about Mass Shootings

Well, in all my years I ain’t never heard, seen nor smelled an issue that was so dangerous it couldn’t be talked about.

1776.

Psst! America? You’re old enough now. It’s time for us sit down and talk about some things.

No, not about the birds and the bees. Not this time anyway.  Although it does include other animals. Elephants, to be precise.

No, we need to chat about mass shootings in this country. It’s long overdue.  And that means you have to include those gun-shaped elephants in the room.
