Work to Honor the Self-Evident Truths

Today is July 4th, the anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. In it, the colonies that would become the United States of America laid out why they felt impelled to rebel against Great Britain and form their own nation.  According to that document, the rebellion, and thus the basis for the existence of the United States, rests foremost upon the recognition that there are self-evident truths about human existence: rights to life, liberty, and happiness that no human authority can or should deny.

 

America was founded on principles to which it has always had difficulty living up.

Torchlight Media: 10 Questions Congress Should Ask Robert Mueller

In Robert Mueller’s recent public statement on his investigation, he tried to make a case for why there was no need for him to testify before Congresss. Despite his protestations, several things remain unanswered. Owl’s Two Cents: Don’t Pass a Law to Protect Robert Mueller

Dear Congress. Trust me.  Don’t bother trying to pass a law protecting Robert Mueller.  Take my word for it. No matter your party, it’s not worth it.

 

Look, I get it. I know the Democrats are up in arms because they think Mueller is going to put them out of their Trump misery. I know the Republicans are afraid they need to protect Trump from himself.  I know what I am suggesting must sound like utter blasphemy to some of you.

 

But hear me out.

Sobering Thoughts: Mass Shootings, Guns, and Bringing Prohibition into the Picture

We’ve had another mass shooting in America. Another school shooting.  I’ve written about this and guns previously. I’ve never gotten much of a reaction to what I wrote, so I guess it barked up the wrong tree.
